Moonshine? Anyone? Anyone?

Oops, too slow…looks like Mike beat you to the punch! We were perhaps a little city slicker at the Hillsville ABC store the other day, when we saw a whole section of moonshine. OK, the giggling and pointing was city slicker….me making Mike pose for this stellar shot? Smacks of tourist. But we’re not, we’re here to stay…muahahaha!!!

Shrub Success! And on to Limencello.

First off, apologies…I didn’t get a picture of the finished shrub drink. So I’ll describe…pale pink, fizzy and fun looking. The “curing” process timed up perfectly with a local potluck last week, so I took a pitcher of lemon blueberry gin shrub with us (along with buttery mashed potatoes and kale chips).

A Shrub Update!

The fruit has been strained and the syrup mixed with equal parts vinegar. I used rice wine vinegar, since it appears our apple cider vinegar didn’t make it on the moving truck (urgh!), but perhaps that will be nice? It’s a more gentle vinegar, which I’m thinking might go well with the more mild blueberry flavor. We shall see! Continue reading →
