Before you say we’re crazy for getting a puppy this month, let me state our case. Mike and I have been wanting a dog for the longest time, and we have been waiting for just the right time and just the right puppy/dog. I can’t tell you how many rescue and breeder applications I’ve filled out in the last few months. And last week, we saw a one year old golden/sheltie mix in NC that melted our hearts. So I started talking with the rescue, and they cat tested the candidate.

But after discussing at length, the rescue and I decided that a one year old dog that has never been around chickens/goats/chickens/sheep/chickens, even if a total sweetheart, might be a bit of a challenge. Since we’d already planned our Sunday around visiting the shelter, we ventured down to NC anyway, and discussed fostering a puppy for them. Just to see how it went before committing… Uhh, right.

Well, after spending a few hours playing with a group of 6 puppies…this is the one we chose. She is very submissive, but not shy. She has the black and tan markings that Mike loves. And she is really, really smart. It might not be the English Shepherd that I was thinking of, but to be honest, I don’t think we have enough of a farm yet for an ES. Soon, but not now.

So, we’re training this little mush to be the ambassador to all who come next. So far she’s done amazing with the chickens, looked at Noodle with BIG eyes and sat between my legs and let Snuffles touch noses with her. It’s been a big two days for this little girl, and while we’re a bit sleep deprived…we’re pretty darn happy.

Now she just needs a name (her shelter name was Jasmine)… For now, we’ve been calling her mush, mushface, puppy toes…

A Texas transplant who has floated from state to state, Erin finally feels at rest here in Floyd, VA. People drink out of mason jars, make their own yogurt/cheese/butter/you-name-it and hey, it might not be dry rub brisket, but the BBQ here is pretty freaking good. She has dreams of a dairy cow, a shady hammock to read and a happy dog at her side.

Wow what a cute dog. Can’t wait to have a play date. My uncle once told me you don’t go to look at a dog, you go to get one.

Us too! We want her to be as socialized as possible, but we actually don’t know too many people with dogs here. She was super good with her litter mates and an older dobie at the shelter, so want to keep that going.

Great quote…we sort of knew that, but couldn’t help ourselves. And to be honest, she really is a combo of exactly what we wanted. Can’t wait for you guys to meet her!

She is so cute! Man, watching that video makes me want a puppy! Have fun with her, and good luck in the naming process.

Thanks!! I tell you what…there are lots of moments of pure happiness, and “isn’t she adorable” times…but.

4AM this morning when one of us had to take her out in the freezing, frosty darkness? And then again at 7AM? Not such a fan! And last night, she passed out too early, and then got fired up when we took her outside for her last potty break. Sigh.

But you guys have had more than your share of that sort of thing with Maddie, I’m sure! :)

I remember those days with Carter, it really is a lot like having a baby but at least I don’t have to go outside when Maddie wakes me up in the night!

    Love her!

    So cute, I want one!

She’s suuuuper cute! Hmmm… I wonder how Ash Boogie would react to going nose to nose with a sheep. She’d probably pee herself or hide behind my legs as she does any time we’ve gone to the dog parks. *sigh* How’s the new mushface doing these days? :) Looking forward to meeting the aminals (yes I spelled that just the way I wanted to lol) when it warms up and we can coordinate a visit. MISS YOU BOTH!! <3 Jai

Aww, but that’s a GOOD thing around the farm. You don’t want dogs messing with the sheep/goats/chickens. Eva wants to play with them more than is probably good, but she’s getting better — thanks to our rooster and some head butts from the goats. Miss you too, can’t wait to show you our new crazy farm life. And by the time it’s warmer, it’s liable to be a whole lot crazier!! :)

Got something to say? Go for it!
